A Bryan man has been charged with assault after his arrest Saturday night in Brenham.

31-year old Carlos Henry Tijerina of Bryan was arrested after police were called to the 200 block of Lounge Road in Brenham, just before 7:00 p.m.

KWHI has learned that Tijerina is the coach of a Bryan 12-and-Under girls softball team.  He was reportedly ejected from a game after an argument with an umpire.

Following the tournament, Tijerina allegedly attacked the umpire in the Hohlt Park parking lot and punched him in the face and struck him in the chest.

Tijerina was placed into custody at the scene and transported to the Washington County Jail where he was charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury.  He is free on $750 bond.

  1. I guess it’s the old saying “innocent until proven guilty” I would hope he’s not on the field until his court date!
The team could refuse to play under his leadership and let an experienced assistant coach fill the role. Just an option but I wish the team good luck moving forward!

  2. What’s crazy is that another news outlet reports “The manager of the softball team told KBTX they’re aware of the incident, but that Tijerina will continue to coach the team.” UNBELIEVABLE! What kind of example are you setting?

  3. Wow! So this team Is going to allow this person to be an example to their daughters. What a shame! I would be disappointed if my daughter played for this team. Hope they aren’t allowed back in Brenham!

  4. What a great example for our kids. Scary the world our young kids will be growing up in.

  5. What this article doesn’t say is he assaulted an official at a 12U girls softball game. Thank you KWHI for still posting this on your website.
