FINAL VOTES ON PROPOSED BUDGET, TAX RATE ON BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL AGENDA
The Brenham City Council will issue second and final readings of the city’s proposed budget and property tax rate at its meeting tomorrow (Thursday).
The council held a brief public hearing Monday on the budget and tax rate. No one from the public attended the meeting. The council’s votes Monday on the budget and tax rate passed unanimously.
The budget balances out at $73 million, with expenses including $21.7 million in the general fund, $38.4 million for utilities, $2.9 million in debt service, and $1.9 million for the Brenham Community Development Corporation. It also accounts for a 7 to 8 percent increase in electric rates, a 4 percent increase in water rates, and a new drainage fee of $3.75 a month for residential customers.
The tax rate of 51.4 cents per $100 valuation is made up of 32 cents for maintenance and operations, and 19.4 cents for debt service. While the new rate is lower than the previous rate of 51.7 cents per $100, it is still expected to generate nearly $650,000 in new revenue, because of higher property values and new properties on tax rolls.
Also in session, the council will:
- Consider an agreement to allow Aviators Plus, LLC to operate as a Fixed Base Operator at the Brenham Municipal Airport.
- Consider a one-year contract extension for janitorial services for various city facilities.
- Look at renewal of liability, property, and workers’ compensation coverage with the Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool.
The council will then adjourn into executive session to discuss the annual evaluation of the City Manager.
The council will meet tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m., at City Hall.
