BISD GATEWAY STUDENTS RAISE FUNDS FOR AMPUTEES IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES
A recent service project from Brenham ISD’s Gateway Program has helped give amputees around the world a second chance at life.
Last year, the program participated in a project to provide prosthetic legs to amputees in developing countries.
Choosing to run a “funky sock campaign” started by We Help Two, Gateway students and those who purchased funky socks provided amputees high-quality leg systems that cost less than a cell phone.
Students in the Gateway Program sold enough socks during the effort to help two amputees: Tika in Nepal, and Gideon in Ghana. They also received 161 pairs of socks that will be donated to the Rainbow Room, an emergency resource center available to CPS caseworkers to help meet the needs of abused and neglected children.
The Gateway students thank everyone in the community who supported the fundraiser.
