BURLESON CO. HOSPITAL BRINGING BACK RAINBOW ROOM FOR ABUSED CHILDREN

A hospital in Burleson County has brought back a service to assist children in finding relief from abuse and neglect.

CHI St. Joseph Health in Caldwell has reintroduced the Rainbow Room, which will provide items for children in the care of Child Protective Services (CPS).

The items, which include clothing, food, toiletries and other essentials, are all donated by Burleson County residents and given to children taken from their homes and placed into CPS care.

Previously, the Rainbow Room was housed in a CPS office building in Caldwell and maintained by a charity organization.  According to Burleson County Health Resource Center Executive Director Albert Ramirez, the room was shut down earlier this year after the group lost its nonprofit status.  However, the Burleson County Family Resource Commission helped reopen the room and reinstate the program earlier this month at the hospital.

Ramirez said the Family Resource Commission will receive assistance from Brenda Jones, the coordinator for a Rainbow Room in Waco.  In addition, Burleson County’s Rainbow Room has already received donations from Caldwell’s Christmas on the Square celebration.

While the room is in use, the Burleson County Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon cutting for the Rainbow Room on January 7th.
