HANAK SELECTED FOR STATE TASK FORCE

  

 

Sheriff Otto Hanak

Washington County Sheriff Otto Hanak has been chosen for membership of a Task Force created by House Bill 3116 that will study best practices for the detention of inmates with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

This Task Force consists of members of city or county governmental agencies that support persons with intellectual or developmental disabilities, city or county governmental agencies that support mental health services, statewide organizations that represent municipalities, statewide organizations that represent corrections professionals, county jail representatives, and a member of law enforcement.

The Task Force will meet on a regular basis and before December 2020, prepare a written report for the Governor’s office describing Task Force activities, findings and recommendations, proposals for legislation and other matters.

On September 1, 2019, House Bill 3116 was signed into law by Governor Greg Abbott requiring the establishment of this Task Force to conduct a comprehensive study of best practice standards for the detention of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
