ANNUAL SALES TAX HOLIDAY FOR EMERGENCY SUPPLIES APRIL 25-27
Shoppers looking to complete their emergency kits can look to take advantage of the annual Emergency Preparation Supplies Sales Tax Holiday next weekend.
This year’s holiday begins at midnight on Saturday, April 25th, and lasts through midnight on Monday, April 27th.
As the nation continues to hunker down because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar urges Texans to shop online or practice strict social distancing measures for in-store purchases during the sales tax holiday.
The primary intent of the law that established the holiday is to help Texans prepare for events like hurricanes and turbulent spring storms.
There is no limit on the number of qualifying items one can purchase, and shoppers do not need an exemption certificate. However, delivery, shipping, handling and transportation charges are considered part of the sales price.
Among the items available with no sales tax are portable generators priced under $3,000, and hurricane shutters and emergency ladders under $300. Items under $75 include radios, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, coolers and ice chests.
Purchases that do not qualify include vehicle batteries, camping equipment, chainsaws, and replacement parts for emergency supplies.
