BRENHAM ISD RESUMING MEAL SERVICES WEDNESDAY

Brenham ISD is bringing back its meal service program to distribute food to students, albeit in a different manner.

Brenham ISD will have 1,000 boxes of shelf-stable food to give out Wednesday at Brenham High School and Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church.

Starting today (Wednesday), 1,000 boxes containing five breakfasts and five lunches per student will be distributed every Wednesday at Brenham High School from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Each child present in the vehicle between the ages of 1 and 18 will receive a food box containing shelf-stable meals, which will be placed in the trunk of the vehicle to maintain contact-less delivery.

The district’s previous daily meal distribution was temporarily put on hold earlier this month after concerns that a district employee had been exposed to COVID-19, but it was later determined that the employee had not been exposed.

Child Nutrition Services Director Sandra Baxter told the Brenham School Board at its meeting Monday that the daily meal service, which ran from March 16th to April 7th, served 22,977 breakfasts and lunches across three delivery sites, reaching about 800 students a day.

  1. Its pretty simple honestly. If you cant afford to feed or provide for your kids, DONT HAVE THEM!!!! Dont have kids if you know you are going to have to suck on the hind teat of the government in order to provide for them, or yourself for that matter.

  2. Dukey, I completely understand what you’re seeing. I understand how it’s completety irrational to have the handouts despite the tax payer money that’s already spent on food stamps and WIC. You know the resources are there but they are not used, It takes effort and no one will call CPS and be a “snitch”.

Some things that you’re not accounting for:
    1. People do not have the same value system rooted in self sacrifice (which is fundamentally Christian), this is an intentional cultural shift. That went out window when our lovely judicial experts came up with such things as the lemon test and harmful reinterpretations of the Establishment Clause. Values are now more based on the popular notion of “personal truth” vs empirical or Truth. “Personal” truth is rooted in relativism, a shocking number of people believe this as educational experts preach it in SEL.

    2. We are not all created equal but when played out with the idea of personal truth (that is that we are all the same and equally good at all things), you get notions that a “baby daddy” is just as good as a husband and father and the bad guy is the person that says that’s wrong.

    3. Ideas like personal responsibility, scarcity, self control, merit, personal finance and long term planning have been re framed as tools of oppression that lead to inequity, a Marxist idea.

Dukey, the best thing we could hope for is a fast reawakening after the resources dry up as the Senate Majority said yesterday (for the first or second time I’m proud of him) when he said its best to let the states go bankrupt if they can’t keep a balance sheet.

It’s a lesson long forgotten that I’m afraid has to be relearned the hard way. Pandemic or no pandemic.

My preference would be to go ahead and give half the country to the Marxists so I never have to see them again unless it’s through the scope of my rifle after they declare war on the “oppressors” and they come after hard earned resources.

  3. So much anger for those in need. Now is not the time to question why the children are hungry or to place blame on people’s intentions. Now is the time to help those in need, to feed those who are hungry. Lets mot forget our humanity.
    Matthew 25:35
For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me,

  4. Brenham is full of such kind and compassionate souls. Good Christians, I say!

(Shame on anyone wanting to starve children…regardless of what their parents do or don’t do, it isn’t the children’s fault)

    1. Shame on parents who don’t feed their children. There are already resources in place to make sure no one goes hungry without schools having to do it. SNAP, WIC, etc. This is just another drain on taxpayers so school administrators can pay themselves on the back.

  5. Wow! Brenham represents good hearted people. I lived here majority of my life! My family has helped this town grow. I dont see it as free handouts. Brenham takes care of one another. Just like we recieve we give back!! Talk about misery at it finest! Alot of people have been affected by this some of thier jobs have slowed down to some not even working at all! BRENHAM IS BLESSED with wonderful people. Just like my great grandparents used to say “Today it’s us and tomorrow it could be you. We should always help one another!” And my opinion Brenham does just that! You talk like people in Brenham are sitting around with their hands and that’s not the case here. So before you judge put yourself in the families shoes and think about what all they are stressing about right now. God Bless You

  6. is brenham that poor of a town that the parents of these school children can’t afford to feed their own kids I guess the next thing is that they will be handing out clothes to them

    1. Not sure if the actual number but I think 70% of the kids in district qualify for reduced or free lunch. The district also gets funds for each lunch passed out from the state. So before you judge so quick and be negative be happy to help people who don’t have the money to buy their kids lunch everyday. Many of which might have lost their jobs or have reduced hours due to shut downs.

    2. Please don’t encourage anymore free handouts! The really sad thing is most parents drive nicer vehicles then average and their hair and nails done on a regular basis! They have the most expensive shoes plus every new video game system along with the newest I phone in the market but can’t feed their own kids! Really depressing and these MRE meals will most likely not be eaten by the kids because it’s not what their accustomed to!

So to your question, no it’s not that this town is significantly low income but have just been spoiled by the school system so they depend on anything free and some abuse it!

      1. You are so correct ! Perfectly said !
        Nails $25.00 -$60.00
        Eye lashes $45.00 – $100.00
        Pedicure $40.00 -$75.00
        Eye brow wax $10.00
Facial wax, bikini wax, leg wax ???????
        Hair ???????
I have not had the luxury of having these things done in a salon for years. Guess I’m too busy feeding my kids with my money. Silly me…. all this time… right?

    3. Are you supplying this food??? So why do you care??? Seems like you have a very self conscious way of thinking…. and your should really keep it to yourself if it doesn’t concern you TIA

      1. I actually do donate to Faith Mission and Boys and Girls Club monthly. I also help fill the Blessing Box at a local church !

The comments about some of these women with nail, hair, eyelashes and the toe nail jobs they have are incredible. Fees for these things are well over $200.00. What is more important – looking good or feeding your children!

Makes me feel that you spend money on looking good because you KNOW someone else will feed you and your children

Maybe they should invest money on food instead of looking so good to attract men to create another mouth to feed !

Just sick of it ! Makes me think I need to donate to something more meaningful then food.

        God Bless us all !

      2. SHANIQA, the RETIRED speaks this cause he/she is a paying Taxpayer of School taxes & yes he/she is paying for this handout so do not speak before thinking. Its unbelievable that community restaurants have not reached out to the Senior Center here to provide meals. I’m sure meals would be accepted & if volunteer drivers needed to deliver…. put out the request & it will be filled. Yes that’s where YOU need to give!!!! That generation will never stand out with OPEN HANDS expecting FREE. So respect this person because they made this country. Fought the Wars & sacrificed in ways you never have. Help yourself & yours before expecting others to provide . Your children are your responsibility. Volunteer & involve your FAMILY.Teach them what it means to give & not always take !! The retired are grateful for help.

      3. We are all supplying these meals as tax payers but if you must know anonymous donations go throughout the county and state regardless to which crisis so to your question. Yes, it’s time to stand up for your own we’ll bring and take responsibility for who or what you’ve entered into this world! Don’t expect a ball out in every situation because those nice rims or I phone will be taken or cut off quicker then they were put or turned on in all reality! Don’t sit on the porch waiting for the next free meal ir more money added to government assistance!

    4. I keep saying the same thing ! Why are they having children ?????

Clothes? with the generousity of the Brenham People they should be like Oprah /
You get a car, you get a car and guess what you get a car too !!! Know why…..you didn’t work hard enough , didn’t try hard enough, didn’t save any money and you know that people will feel sorry for you and FEED your family !
All of you people having to stand or ride through these food lines – give something back to the people that are working to help provide you with these meals.
DONATE YOUR TIME, do something to help the community that is feeding you and your families.

If I was from out of town and pick up the paper to read local news, I would not want to live here. Reading about all the hunger and people can’t afford to feed themselves…..come on who would want to live in a town like that !

      1. Lol… all you judgemental people need to be quiet an take a seat. Have a heart because one day your gonna need it. God don’t like ugly!
