DELAYS PUSH BACK COMPLETION OF HUMP/BUMP REPAIR AT BRENHAM AIRPORT
The hump/bump repair project at the Brenham Municipal Airport is suffering some delays.
In an email sent this (Monday) morning to pilots, Development Services Director Stephanie Doland said the runway at the airport will not be closed for re-striping at the end of this month, nor will the full length of the runway be reopening as originally planned.
An updated schedule from the city’s contractor, Texcon, indicates the complete closure of the runway is now planned for September 24-30, and the full length of the runway will reopen October 1st.
Doland said the city understands that this timeline is “significantly different” from the original schedule, and noted that the weather is the primary reason for the delays, particularly with the embankment and new fill not drying out as quickly as hoped.
The hump/bump has been a safety hazard that has previously been repaired, only to come back. Doland said the city, Texcon, project engineer Strand Associates, and TxDOT Aviation are committed to completing the project correctly and ensuring that no further bumps appear on the runway.
Doland said there may be opportunities for larger aircraft needing the full length of the runway to land or take off prior to October 1st. Pilots needing further information can contact Doland at 979-337-7269.
