CUBS OPEN 2020 SEASON AT HOME AGAINST MAGNOLIA WEST

The long-awaited open to the Brenham Cubs 2020 football season is set for tonight at Cubs Stadium, when they face long-time foe, Magnolia West at 7:00 p.m.

The game, delayed five weeks due to the Coronavirus pandemic, will be the first of nine regular season games for the 2020 Cubs.

Cubs’ head coach Eliot Allen got his first real look at this year’s squad last Friday in the scrimmage with Cy Park…

Coach Eliot Allen (Mark Whitehead)

The Cubs enter the 2020 season with high expectations and a new quarterback.  Steven Stackhouse will run the offense as Brenham takes the field for the opener.  Allen says the junior has a “strong arm and has the opportunity to be a good leader.”

Brenham also returns junior tailback Javon Dixon, who rushed for 773 yards and 10 touchdowns as a backup last year.

On defense, the Cubs are led by a strong linebacking corps and an experienced group of defensive backs, led by highly-touted junior cornerback Eric Hemphill.

As for tonight’s game against the Mustangs, Allen says he needs to see as few mistakes as possible…

Tonight’s game can be heard live on AM 1280 KWHI, FM 101.7 and www.kwhi.com with Doug Brown and Tommy Lange, beginning with the Pre-Game Show at 6:30 and kickoff at 7:00.
