SENIOR CENTER RESUMES COMMUNITY-WIDE FOOD BOX DISTRIBUTIONS OCTOBER 14TH, 28TH

WCHLA SIGNS CONTRACT WITH NEW USDA FARMERS TO FAMILIES FOOD BOX PROGRAM DISTRIBUTOR

The Margaret E Blizzard Senior Activity Center will once again host USDA Farmers to Families Curbside Food Box pickups.

The Washington County Healthy Living Association (WCHLA) and the senior center have signed a contract with a new food program distributor for the month of October, after reporting communication troubles with their previous distributor, DiMare Fresh out of Houston.  The contracts with USDA Farmers to Families Food Boxes are month to month.

The community curbside schedule this month will be October 14th and 28th from 9:30 a.m. to noon, or until all boxes are gone.  The senior center, located at 1301 East Tom Green Street, will distribute over 1,000 boxes.

According to WCHLA Executive Director Toy Kurtz, the new boxes will be twice the size of the previous produce boxes, and will contain milk and dairy products, precooked chicken, lunch meat or hot dogs, and fresh fruit and vegetables.  There are no qualifying or age restrictions to receive a food box.

The senior center will be notified in late October if contracts will be available for November.  Anyone looking for more information on the food box program can call the senior center Mondays and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 979-836-6552.
