The burn will be conducted between 1 and 5 p.m., according to the fire department’s Facebook page.

The prescribed fire is in conjunction with the Brazos Valley Wildfire Academy, which is being held this week.

The Ignition Operations class, S-219, will be using this prescribed fire as their field work in training firefighters.

Prescribed burns lower the threat of catastrophic wildfires by reducing excessive amounts of brush, shrubs and trees, while encouraging new growth of native vegetation and maintaining the plant and animal species whose habitats depend on periodic fire.
