RIBBON CUTTINGS TUESDAY FOR NEW LITTLE FREE LIBRARIES AT BRENHAM PARKS

A trio of ribbon cutting ceremonies are set for tomorrow (Tuesday) in Brenham to promote literacy at local parks.

Grand opening celebrations will be held for three new Little Free Libraries on April 6th at three parks in Brenham, including Jackson Street Park (shown here), Jerry Wilson Park and Hattie Mae Flowers Park.

The City of Brenham and Fortnightly Club of Brenham will celebrate the opening of new Little Free Libraries at Jerry Wilson, Hattie May Flowers and Jackson Street Parks.  The events are open to the public, and will be held at 4 p.m. at Jerry Wilson Park, 5 p.m. at Hattie Mae Flowers Park, and 6 p.m. at Jackson Street Park.

Little Free Libraries act as neighborhood book exchanges, inviting the public to either take or leave a book.

Families are invited to bring a book to help stock the new libraries and share it with the community.  The Fortnightly Club will continually monitor the libraries to ensure books remain appropriate and also restock when needed.

Anyone interested in donating to put more Little Free Libraries in Brenham parks can contact Fortnightly Club member Suzy Hankins at 979-836-7393.  To learn about Little Free Libraries, and to see a map of libraries in Brenham, visit https://littlefreelibrary.org.

  1. Literacy is very important……also the safety of people are important. Not to be a pessimist but being a realist in today’s society there should be concerns for these holding areas that have public access. For example drug exchange, pornography etc. I guess we will wait and see. We do have a Public Library that is a safer option.
