WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO CONSIDER REDISTRICTING PLANS

  

Washington County Commissioners will hold a public hearing Tuesday regarding the proposed redistricting of county precincts.

Residents will have the opportunity to share comments on the presented plans for redistricting of county election, justice of the peace and commissioners’ court precincts.  After the hearing, commissioners will potentially take action on redistricting plans.

Every 10 years, data from the U.S. Census is used to update district and precinct lines to reflect population changes.  The maximum variance in population between the largest and smallest districts or precincts is 10 percent.

Included in the agenda packet for Tuesday’s meeting are two proposed changes to the county’s precinct map.

The first modification would take a tract close to where FM 2935 meets Little Sandy Creek and move it from Precinct 3, represented by Commissioner Kirk Hanath, to Precinct 1, covered by Commissioner Don Koester.

The second revision would move land around the meeting point of Highway 290 and Highway 36 South from Precinct 2, under Commissioner Candice Bullock, to Precinct 4, under Commissioner Joy Fuchs.

Also on Tuesday, commissioners will consider an interlocal agreement between the county and Fort Bend County for performance of postmortem exams.

If approved, the agreement would allow Washington County to obtain the services of the Fort Bend County medical examiner to perform postmortem examinations on people who died in Washington County.  It would also allow the medical examiner to provide sworn testimony in connection with any inquest by a justice of the peace or any criminal investigation or prosecution conducted by a prosecuting attorney.

After the regular meeting, commissioners will host a workshop to discuss Temporary Assignment Policy.

Commissioners will also consider:

• Including the Veterans County Service Office as an option for jurors and prospective jurors to donate their juror severe payment.
• Setting dates and times for commissioners court meetings in 2022 to include the second Tuesday as the regular meeting at 9 a.m. and the first, third, fourth and fifth Tuesdays at 9 a.m. as special meetings.
• Approving the 2022 Washington County holiday schedule.
• Approving the county engineer to advertise for sealed bids for road and bridge items including drive bridge piling; fuel; oils, asphalts and emulsions; road construction materials; and steel products.
• A formal notice from PGMS for a two-inch road bore to replace a one-inch water service line at 731 West Briarwood Drive in Precinct 3.
• A subdivision variance request for a land division fronting Sommer Lane in Precinct 1.
• Approving a change order submitted by Strand Associates, Inc. on behalf of Larry Young Paving, Inc. to the 2020 CTIF Grant.
• Purchasing two Lifepak 15 V4 monitors for Washington County EMS through the American Rescue Plan with a sole source vendor.
• Purchasing two Power Pro XT stretchers for Washington County EMS through the American Rescue Plan with a sole source vendor.
• Approving the position description for E&DS administrative assistant II.

Commissioners will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse.
