VICTIM IDENTIFIED IN FATAL TRAIN VERSUS VEHICLE CRASH IN SOMERVILLE

  

Update @ 6:50 a.m. Saturday: Authorities have released the name of the Somerville High School senior who was killed in a car crash with a train Friday morning.

18-year-old AhMari Rai Mouton was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred shortly after 7:45 a.m. in Somerville at Switchback Road and Highway 36.

Initial investigation indicates that Mouton may have disregarded the traffic control arms at the train crossing.

Original Story @ 10:38 a.m. Friday: A Somerville High School student was killed this (Friday) morning after a vehicle was struck by a train.

Somerville ISD Superintendent Karla Sparks confirmed in a statement the death of a senior in the crash, which occurred in Somerville at Switchback Road and Highway 36.  The name of the victim has not been released.

Switchback Road is closed as Somerville police investigate the accident.

Sparks said high school students will be released at 12:30 p.m. today, and counselors will be available to meet with students.  Buses will also run for high school students.  The elementary and intermediate schools will release at regular time.
