E. COLI FOUND IN CITY OF NAVASOTA WATER SUPPLY
CITY SAYS WATER WELL HAS BEEN ISOLATED, WATER SAFE TO DRINK
The City of Navasota says water from one of its water wells has tested positive for E. coli.

The city says the bacteria was found in the water supply on Friday. According to City Utility Supervisor Matthew Julian, the sample was collected from a raw water well prior to disinfection.
Julian said the water well in question has been isolated until it can be disinfected and re-sampled. He added that the city’s water is safe to drink and no boiling is required.
The bacteria can cause short-term health effects such as diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches or other symptoms. It can also pose a special health risk for infants, young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.
The water is treated with chlorine at the water treatment facility to kill any bacteria that may be present.
The city plans to disinfect the well on Monday and flush and resample it on Tuesday. City officials expect to resolve the problem by Wednesday.
