DOWNTOWN BRENHAM CHRISTMAS STROLL BEGINS FRIDAY

Downtown Brenham will celebrate the season this weekend with the annual Christmas Stroll and Lighted Parade.

Festivities get underway today (Friday) and continue through tomorrow (Saturday), with holiday shopping, live music, dance performances, the lighting of the courthouse square and a lighted parade through downtown all on tap.

Community Services Specialist Crystal Locke says this year, the parade, themed “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree”, will offer new rewards for winners.

The lighted parade at 6 p.m. tomorrow marks the high point of the weekend’s activities, which start today with shopping at the Jingle Bell Market at the Ant Street Inn from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.  There will also be the Farmer and Artisan Market on Baylor Street from 3 to 6 p.m.

Country and Broadway star Gary Morris will perform a Christmas show at The Barnhill Center at 7 p.m., and Unity Theatre will feature a showing of Tuna Christmas at 8 p.m.

Tomorrow’s activities begin with a sold-out Breakfast with Santa at Must Be Heaven at 8 and 9 a.m.  Children will be able to enjoy pancakes, face painting, kids’ activities and pictures with Santa Claus.  The Jingle Bell Market will be open for another day of shopping from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Local Girl Scouts will gather at the courthouse at 5 p.m. for caroling and the lighting of the Christmas trees, leading up to the parade.  Children can then sit with Santa at the courthouse gazebo, take a ride on the 1950 Invader Fire Truck at the Brenham Fire Museum, and even enjoy a pop-up s’mores bar.  Unity Theatre will host a second showing of Tuna Christmas at 8 p.m.

Monique Breaux, executive assistant to the city manager, says after last year’s event had to be limited, the city wanted to do something big.
