SKELETAL REMAINS DISCOVERED IN NAVASOTA
POLICE DO NOT SUSPECT FOUL PLAY
Navasota police are investigating after skeletal remains were discovered this (Thursday) morning.
Navasota Police Chief Shawn Myatt said around 10:30 a.m., a construction or maintenance crew was around the railroad track near Railroad and Stoneham Streets when they found what they believed to be a human bone.
When police arrived, they located more skeletal remains and confirmed them to be human.
According to Myatt, a majority of the remains were located in a homeless community that sits near the tracks in a heavily wooded area. Myatt said it is possible that one of the homeless community members died, and based on the age of the remains, the cause of death could range from natural causes to February’s winter storm.
Police do not suspect foul play, and will be sending off the remains for positive identification.
