BURTON HERITAGE SOCIETY SEEKING PUBLIC ASSISTANCE WITH CHURCH RESTORATION
The Burton Heritage Society is seeking the public’s help as they attempt to restore the oldest former church building left in the Burton community.
The Mount Zion Historical Chapel, which is the former Burton Baptist Church, is located near the corner of FM 390 and Colorado Street in Burton. The Heritage Society is seeking photos of the actual building or photos that have the building in the background.
The existing structure is said to date back to 1917. The earliest photo of the exterior of the building comes from the 1940s, while the interior photos are from the 1970s or 1980s.
Anyone with information about the church or photos can contact Steph Jarvis at the Texas Cotton Gin Museum by phone at 979-289-3378, or by e-mail, director@texascottonginmuseum.org.
