SOMERVILLE MUNICIPAL COURT OFFERING FAILURE TO APPEAR AMNESTY PROGRAM
Starting tomorrow (Thursday), the City of Somerville Municipal Court is instituting a three week long Failure to Appear Amnesty Program.
During this period, drivers who have been cited for various traffic law violations and failed to appear in court can make payments on their citations, and the failure to appear charges and warrant fees will be waived.
According to Somerville Police Chief Jake Sullivan, the city currently has $749,000 in outstanding warrants and citations.
Anyone with outstanding tickets can go to the Somerville Municipal Court at 600 Memory Lane from 8am-4pm to make payments. On-line payments can also be made by going to their website at www.somervilletx.gov.
The Failure to Appear Amnesty Program runs through February 24.
3/4 of a million dollars in outstanding warrants and citations? While I know that that entire amount would not be spent on improvements and upkeep for the town of Somerville, I’m sure that some of it could be. It will be interesting to see how this amnesty program works; if it doesn’t, does that mean that they’re going to ‘go after’ these persons who either refuse to come forward and pay or who are sitting and ‘waiting to see’ what will happen to them? If anybody ever says that the little crimes don’t amount to much and don’t add up, this story would certainly prove them wrong. I hope that the City of Brenham doesn’t have an amount like this outstanding.
