ONE BURTON PANTHER & TWO SOMERVILLE YEGUAS EARN ALL STATE HONORS
One member of the Burton Panther Football Team and two members of the Somerville Yegua Football Team have received All-State honors.
The Texas Sports Writers Association released their Class 2A All State Football Team for the 2021 season.
Senior Linebacker Waylon Hinze of the Burton Panthers was named Second Team All State.
Hinze helped lead a stingy Burton Panther defense that went four rounds deep in the playoffs this past season.
The Panthers made the playoffs as a fourth place team after having seven of their wins taken away due to an ineligible player. Burton's only two losses on the field were to 2A Division I State Champion Shiner and 2A Division II State Runner-Up Falls City.
Meanwhile, Junior Offensive Lineman Jesus Espinoza and and Senior Wide Receiver Verkobe Woodberry of the Somerville Yeguas were chosen as Honorable Mention All State.
Somerville made the playoffs this past season after finishing in third place in their district.
