BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD TO VOTE ON RENEWING DISTRICT OF INNOVATION PLAN

The Brenham School Board will consider renewing Brenham ISD’s District of Innovation Plan at its meeting Monday.

Originally adopted in February 2017, the plan allows the district to be exempt from certain provisions in Texas Education Code to provide more local control.

One exemption requested by the district through the plan would allow it to start school before the fourth Monday of August to better balance instructional time in the fall and spring semesters.  A second would exempt the district from current teacher certification requirements when hiring dual credit instructors and Career Technical Educators.  The third exemption authorizes the district to issue two-year probationary contracts, rather than the standard one-year period, in order to allow for a longer evaluation period for experienced teachers that are new to Brenham ISD.

The original plan was reviewed in January by the Brenham ISD Superintendent Advisory Council, which voted to renew the plan as is for an additional five years.  The renewal committee consists of the superintendent, assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction, department staff, paraprofessionals, administrative assistants, teachers and parents.

The plan can be seen on the district's website.

In other business, the board will hear several reports, including an update on the special education department.  After an executive session, it will consider approval of administrative contracts for the 2022-23 school year.

The board will meet Monday at 6 p.m. in rooms 111 and 113 at Brenham High School.  The meeting will be livestreamed on Brenham ISD's YouTube channel.

  1. I hope they ask for the tax payer’s input and survey the parents as to whether or not they want school to start earlier in the month. It’s always nice to get everyone involved in that type of decision making.
