The Burton Bridge Ministry is expanding its food pantry model.
April marks the opening of the ministry’s new Client Choice Pantry at the organization’s former thrift store location at 601 North Main Street. The Client Choice Pantry replaces the previous mobile food pantry, and means fresh food will be available 32 hours each month instead of just a two-hour window.
Washington County residents who qualify can visit once a month for fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, canned goods, breads and sweets. Clients can return two additional times each month for fresh and seasonal produce.
The ministry purchases food through proceeds from its thrift store, donations and grant funding.
The pantry includes a section for community donations. Suggested items include farm-fresh eggs, nonperishables and hygiene products.
The pantry will be open from 10 a.m. to noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Saturdays, as well as 3 to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays. Referral specialists can connect clients with benefits on the third Tuesday of each month, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
