WASHINGTON CO. APPROVES EMS INTERNSHIP PROGRAM WITH TEXAS A&M

  

Washington County Commissioners approved an internship agreement between Washington County EMS and Texas A&M University at their meeting today (Tuesday).

Through the unpaid internship, EMS will provide 14 weeks of on-site education for Texas A&M students majoring in community health.

EMS Director Kevin Deramus said the partnership came about after the Regional Vaccination subHUB put the county on the map for Texas A&M’s nursing program and community health program.

 

Deramus said the interns will primarily be utilized for EMS’ community paramedic program, with plans including having the interns work alongside the Burton Bridge Ministry for community health partnership events.

Also during today’s meeting, commissioners approved a revised position description for maintenance workers at the Washington County Expo.  Expo Director Harrison Williams explained that the changes are for uniformity with other Expo employees, and include updating instances of the word “Fairgrounds” to “Expo” to reflect the new name of the facility.  No changes were made to the position’s pay.
