BURTON CITY COUNCIL TO SWEAR IN GILMON, CONSIDER NEW MAYOR PRO-TEM
The Burton City Council will swear in a member for a new term and potentially appoint a mayor pro-tem at its meeting tomorrow (Tuesday).
After no election was held for two uncontested seats on the council, the oath of office will be administered to Tommie Gilmon, who holds Position 2. Jason Schoenvogel did not seek another term for Position 3, and no one has filed to take his place.
The council will also consider naming a new mayor pro-tem. The role has been held by Councilmember Nathan Kalkhake.
Also at tomorrow’s meeting, the council will look at approving project costs for plans to expand the walkways and add a table and bench at Weeren Park.
In other items, the council will consider:
- Accepting the engagement letter as submitted by Medak & Oltmann, LLP to perform the annual audit of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2022.
- A resolution authorizing the city to enter into an agreement with the state authorizing closure of a segment of the state highway system on Spur 125 between Mulberry Street and Texas Street for the annual Sons of the Legion Cotton Gin Classic Car Show on June 11th.
- Accepting the audits of seizure funds as required by the Code of Criminal Procedure for fiscal years 2020-21 and 2021-22.
- Authorizing Nathan Kalkhake, Macey Tidwell, Tommie Gilmon and Paul McLaughlin as signers on all city bank accounts.
The council will meet tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. at Burton City Hall.
