TWO WEEKEND ACCIDENTS NEAR LAKE SOMERVILLE RESULT IN SEVERAL INJURIES

Several people were treated for injuries after two accidents this weekend near Lake Somerville.

The first crash occurred Saturday just after 6 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 36 and FM 1948.

According to DPS Sergeant Justin Ruiz, a northbound 2014 Ram pickup towing a boat was turning at a gas station at the intersection when a southbound 2018 Chevy Silverado struck the Ram’s boat trailer.  A southbound 2005 Chevy Colorado then hit the Silverado while attempting to avoid the crash.

The driver of the Colorado, 61-year-old Ines Dorantes-Sandoval of Navasota, was flown to St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan with serious injuries.

Minor injuries were reported for the driver of the Ram, 23-year-old Carter Martin of Cypress, and the driver of the Silverado, 21-year-old Mikayla Carroll of Rio Medina.  They were both transported to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Brenham.

The second accident happened shortly after 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the 1900 block of FM 1948.  Brenham and Gay Hill firefighters arrived to find a single vehicle rollover with one person trapped under the vehicle.

Firefighters used air bags to pick up the vehicle to remove the patient from underneath.  No update was provided on the patient’s condition.

  1. They should have planned a better detour for the traffic going south bound on 36. Had the traffics going thru gay hill amd going under the single lane rail road track bridge amd it a low Clarence one to. 18 wheeler was trying to go through there and then get stop amd had to back up all the traffics. There is no low clearance signs coming off the county rd. Somebody should have taught about that problem.
