FIREFIGHTERS BATTLE WILDFIRE IN GRIMES COUNTY

Multiple fire departments were dispatched to contain a wildfire that burned 45 acres in Grimes County yesterday (Monday) afternoon.
The fire began just before 4pm along Highway 90 between the communities of Bedias and Singleton.
The Bedias Volunteer Fire Department initially responded to the scene. They were soon joined by firefighters from Anderson, Richards, Iola, Shiro, Plantersville, and Madisonville.
When it was determined that the fire was a potential threat to multiple structures and livestock, the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office, Precinct One Constable’s Office, and the Navasota Police Department were called in.
The law enforcement agencies shut down part of Highway 90, and assisted with conducting residential evacuations.
The Texas Forestry Service also assisted at the scene with two bulldozers and a helicopter.
The CHI St. Joseph EMS was at the scene, as well, on standby.
The fire departments deployed multiple brush trucks, tankers, and UTVs to finally extinguish the blaze.
According to reports from the agencies, there were no injuries, and all the homes and livestock were protected.
The firefighters also pass along their thanks to the local residents that brought them multiple bottles of water to help them stay hydrated, while the ordeal was ongoing.
