BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL APPROVES LAND NEGOTIATIONS FOR WASTEWATER SYSTEM IMPROVEMENTS

The Brenham City Council voted after an executive session today (Thursday) to move forward with land negotiations to improve the city’s wastewater system.

The council moved unanimously to authorize City Manager Carolyn Miller to negotiate the purchase, exchange or acquisition of real property for city sanitary sewer system improvements and facilities.

Miller said the city is working with a private landowner to acquire property in order to relocate part of its wastewater infrastructure.  She said the council had to agree on a price to offer to the landowner, and that while not much information can be shared on the negotiations as they stand, more will be released if the price is agreed to and documents are signed.

In other action today, the council approved the second reading of the budget and tax rate, formalizing adoption of the two prior to the start of the new fiscal year on Saturday.  The budget is $91.8 million, while the tax rate is $0.4737 per $100 valuation.

The council also:

  • Held executive session discussion on utility competitive matters concerning the city’s gas system and Aviators Plus, LLC v. City of Brenham; Cause No. 27896; 21st Judicial District Court, Washington County. No action was taken.
  • Approved a resolution authorizing the acceptance of public improvements in Phase 2A of the Liberty Village subdivision.
  • Approved a change order to the service agreement with Bassco Services, Inc. for the design, construction and installation of the new fuel farm at the Brenham Municipal Airport.  The change order is in the amount of $43,070 and covers needed tank equipment and three canopies.  The total amount budgeted for the project is $350,000 for the new fuel farm and another $50,000 for electrical upgrades.
