GRIMES COUNTY MAN CONVICTED ON SEX OFFENSES
A Grimes County man was sentenced on Friday in District Court to 24 years in prison for sex offenses.
John Desmond Crawford was found guilty by a grand jury of two counts of Sexual Assault of a Child and one count of Indecency with a Child.
According to the Grimes County District Attorney’s Office, Crawford, who was 19 years old at the time, picked up two girls that he met at a church camp from their home on the afternoon of July 4, 2018.
After several stops in Navasota, Crawford drove them to a remote location off FM 1748. Crawford first had sexual intercourse with the older sister, who was 15 at the time. Then, while she was away from the vehicle, he groped and then sexually assaulted the younger sister, who was 13 years old at the time.
Assistant District Attorneys Courtney Cain and Meagan Callaham prosecuted the case before 12th District Court Judge David Moorman.
During the punishment phase of the trial on Friday, the jury heard testimony from the victim about the trauma she suffered.
Crawford was taken into custody in the courtroom. Once he has served his prison sentence, he will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
