BRENHAM ISD GIFTED & TALENTED PROGRAM TAKING NOMINATIONS
Brenham ISD has opened the nomination process for the Gifted and Talented (GT) education program.
Every school year, Brenham ISD performs a screening process to identify gifted and talented students. Parents, teachers and administrators can nominate students to be screened for identification by Friday, December 9th.
Brenham ISD offers two programs for GT-qualifying students, including Challenging Scientific Investigations (CSI) for students in grades 2-6 and Gateway for grades 3-6. CSI provides opportunities for students to explore science and technology as they read, write, solve problems, conduct experiments and apply science to their daily lives. Gateway offers inquiry-based learning, leadership development, service projects and a fine arts component.
The school district screens students for the GT program using a multi-criteria approach to selection with three phases of placement. GT identification is based upon data collected from achievement tests, ability tests, parent and teacher observation surveys, and student products from Kingore Planned Experiences.
Parents or guardians can pick up a checklist and a request for screening form at their student’s campus or the Brenham ISD Administration Office at 711 East Mansfield Street. The checklist is also available at www.brenhamisd.net.
Testing will begin on campuses the week of January 9, 2023. Campus counselors and district personnel will meet March 3rd to review collected data and determine eligibility.
Letters notifying families of the results will be mailed no later than March 10th for the 2023-24 school year. Students identified and given parent permission will begin their first day in the GT program on the first day of the 2023-2024 school year.
