BELLVILLE’S SMIDT HAS BIG WEEKEND AT NFR IN LAS VEGAS

It was a big weekend for Bellville’s Caleb Smidt at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas.

For the fourth time in his career, Smidt won the Tie-Down Roper World Title, and also for the fourth time was the NFR Average Winner.

He also won those titles last year, which makes him a back-to-back winner.  The other championships came in 2015 and 2018.

Smidt won the Average Title with an 82.5 second time on 10 head. The win moves him into a tie for the record of most NFR Average Wins with Olin Young (1959, 1962-1963, and 1971), Roy Cooper (1976, 1979, 1983, and 1995), and Fred Whitfield (1991, 1997, 1999, and 2002).

Smidt said, “It’s unbelievable. Just what I have accomplished is beyond my imagination.”

He also set a PRCA tie-down roping single season earnings record with $374,737, as well as, an NFR tie-down roping record of $225,221 in earnings.

Smidt attributed his success to his faith in God, the support of his family, and his horse, Pockets.
