KENJURA TO RUN FOR MAYOR OF BRENHAM
A Brenham City Councilmember and former Blinn College trustee is running for mayor of Brenham.
Atwood Kenjura on Tuesday announced his candidacy for the position of mayor. Current Mayor Milton Tate announced on Monday that he would not seek re-election.
Kenjura has been on the Brenham City Council since 2021 and served for 43 years on the Blinn Board of Trustees. He owned and operated Kenjura Pharmacy for 50 years.
Kenjura says it is important that Brenham grows in a controlled and responsible manner and respect its history in doing so.
A lifelong resident of Brenham and a graduate of Brenham High School and Blinn College, Kenjura is a past member of the Baylor Scott & White Board and Washington County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He also served as chairman and as a member of the Brenham Community Development Corporation Board of Directors. In 2011, he was named the Chamber’s Man of the Year.
Open lines of communication between the council and the public are important for Kenjura, who wants to promote town hall meetings, coffee chats, newsletters and joint workshops with the county as a way to get residents more involved.
Kenjura is the first person to formally announce their intent to run in the May 6th election. In addition to mayor, the seats of Ward 2 Councilmember Albert Wright and Ward 4 Councilmember Adonna Saunders will be on the ballot.
Candidate filing opens on Wednesday, January 18th. The deadline to file is Friday, February 17th. Early voting is Monday, April 24th through Tuesday, May 2nd.
