WASHINGTON CO. RESIDENTS WARNING OF POSSIBLE SCAM
Residents in Washington County are taking to social media to warn others of a possible scam.
A Facebook post from one resident says he was approached Wednesday afternoon by a “foreign man” of unknown nationality who waved him down at 6th Street and Market Street. The man said he needed gas for his vehicle and was willing to sell jewelry as collateral. The post also claims that the man “does a show with a magnet.”
The post cautioned that the jewelry is not made of real gold as presented. When the poster tried to invite the man to a jewelry store to prove the legitimacy of the jewelry, he claimed he could not go because of the lack of gas. He left once the poster took a camera out.
The man was described as well-groomed with a medium build, white dress shirt and black pants and speaking with an accent. His vehicle was stated to be a “newer gray Dodge Durango”, which had two children in the back seat.
Comments on the post indicate the man may also have been spotted at other locations in Brenham, as well as surrounding towns and cities.
Brenham police and Washington County dispatch say they have not received any reports that match the incident described, but encourage any citizens who do experience something like this to contact them.
What kind of accent? Spanish? Indian? Palestinian? Chinese?
