LADY PANTHERS SPLIT FIRST TWO GAMES OF BURTON TOURNAMENT
The Burton Lady Panther Softball Team split their first two games on opening day of the Burton Tournament.
SHINER ST. PAUL 4 BURTON 3
St. Paul scored a run in the top of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second inning, Allie Biggs walked, went to second on a passed ball, went to third on another passed ball, and then scored on a wild pitch to tie it 1-1.
It would stay that way until the bottom of the fourth inning when Amaya Williams homered to centerfield. Bailey Glaesmann drew a walk and Biggs drew her second walk. They then executed a double steal with Glaesmann stealing home. Burton increased their lead to 3-1.
In the top of fifth, the Cardinals scored three runs off of two Burton errors to take a 4-3 lead. The Lady Panthers were unable to score in the bottom of the inning as time ran out.
Glaesmann took the tough luck loss in the circle. She went five innings, giving up four runs, all of which were unearned, four hits, no walks, and eight strikeouts.
BURTON 6 ANDERSON-SHIRO 1
The Burton Lady Panthers struck first as Amaya Williams hit her second home run of the day with two outs in the top of the first to make it 1-0 Burton.
In the top of the second, Aerynn Huntsman led it off with a single, and stole second. She would then come home on an RBI single by Katy Whitfield. That put the Lady Panthers up 2-0.
The Lady Owls scored an unearned run in the bottom of the third inning that cut the Burton lead to 2-1.
Then, in the fifth inning Kalli Pohl led it off with a double, and Melanie Wood walked. Paige Fritsch followed with an RBI single that scored Pohl. Amaya Williams walked to load the bases. Bailey Glaesmann cleaned them off with a three-run double that put the Lady Panthers up 6-1.
Fritsch went the first inning, allowing no hits or runs, but did walk four. Glaesmann came on to pitch the remaining four innings giving up one unearned run, on one hit, and striking out seven.
The Burton Tournament is off today (Friday), but will return tomorrow (Saturday). They will play at 10:45am and 12:30pm.
