CUBETTES SPLIT GAMES ON DAY TWO OF BRENHAM TOURNAMENT
The Brenham Cubette Softball Team split their games on the second day of the Brenham Tournament.
BRENHAM 10 SHADOW CREEK 0
In the bottom of the first inning, Halle Scheel reached on an infield hit, and then stole second. Kaylyn Rodriguez singled to put runners at the corners. Scheel then scored on a passed ball. Annie Beckendorf was hit by a pitch. Then on a double steal, Rodriguez scored, while Beckendorf took second. Sarah Mabie then singled to move Beckendorf to third. Beckendorf then stole home. Brenham ended the inning with a 3-0 lead.
The Cubettes added another run in the bottom of the fourth. Avery Maurer led off the inning with a single, and then stole second. Scheel sacrifice bunted her to third. Maurer then scored on a groundout by Rodriguez to make it 4-0 Brenham.
The Cubettes put the game away with six runs in the bottom of the fifth to enforce the ten run mercy rule. McKenzie Tiemann led off the inning with a single. Maurer followed with another single. They both then moved up on a passed ball. Scheel then followed with the third straight single to score Tiemann. Rodriguez singled home Maurer, and then Scheel scored on an error by the centerfielder. Beckendorf walked. Nevaeh Holmes singled to load the bases. Kaylie Rodriguez singled to score her twin sister from third. Kinley Antkowiak sealed the win with a two run double that scored Beckendorf and Holmes.
Della Jasinski got the win in the circle going five shutout innings allowing just two hits and walking two. She also struck out three.
RAINS 11 BRENHAM CUBETTES 1
The second game of the day was the polar opposite for the Cubettes as they fell to the Rains Lady Wildcats 11-1. After Rains scored in the top of the first, Brenham bounced back with a run in the bottom of the inning. Halle Scheel walked, stole second, and stole third. Annie Beckendorf hit a ground ball that the second baseman booted, which allowed Scheel to score the tying run and make it 1-1.
That would be the Cubettes only run off of Rains pitcher Cambree Oakes, who pitched a complete game one hitter. Brenham's only hit came on a double by Sarah Mabie in the 4th.
The Lady Wildcats scored four runs in the second and then three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to enforce the ten run mercy rule.
Della Jasinski started and went two innings allowing five earned runs, on eight hits, while striking out four. Heidi Busker came in and pitched the final three innings. Busker allowed six runs, only three were earned. She allowed three hits, walked three, and struck out two.
The Cubettes wrap up the tournament tomorrow (Saturday) by playing Conroe at 12 noon, and Lexington at 2pm. KWHI will have live coverage of both games beginning with the pregame at 11:35am.
