BRENHAM POLICE INVESTIGATING MOTOR VEHICLE BURGLARY INCREASE

Brenham Police are investigating an increase in motor vehicle burglaries that have occurred over the last couple of months.

Police Sergeant Jason Derrick provided KWHI with the statistics from April 1 through June 13.

During that time frame, Brenham Police had ten case reports with a total of twenty vehicles that were entered and had items stolen from them.  Three reports were taken in April, while four were taken in May, and so far, three have been taken in June.

Items reported stolen include firearms, wallets, purses, and loose change.

Sgt. Derrick said that the majority of the motor vehicle burglaries involved no forced entry with the vehicles being left unlocked.

The majority of them occurred in neighborhoods and at night to early morning.

Brenham Police provided some tips help avoid becoming a burglary victim:

--- Always lock your doors and windows when you park your car.

--- Never leave your keys, wallets or purses, phones, firearms, or other items in your car.

--- If you must leave something in your car, hide it in the trunk, or under the seat.

--- Park in well-lit and busy areas whenever possible.

--- Document the serial numbers on your belongings, and store the document in a secure area in case you do become a burglary victim some day.

--- Report any suspicious activity to the police.

Sgt. Derrick said that they do have leads in some of the cases, and that they are still under investigation. If anyone has any information, they are asked to contact the Brenham Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division at 979-337-7320.
