BRENHAM SELECTED TO HOST TRAVELING SMITHSONIAN EXHIBIT

The Texas Historical Commission’s Heritage Tourism Program has announced that Brenham has been chosen to host the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum on Main Street traveling exhibit, “Crossroads: Change in Rural America.”
Brenham will be one of seven communities in the 2024-25 tour. Exact tour dates will be announced next year.
The Museum on Main Street program is part of the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service division. Exhibits cover a single topic of broad national interest and are designed to engage a wide range of communities and spark conversation about life in small-town America.
The “Crossroads” exhibit examines the impacts of the population shift from rural to urban areas in the United States during the last century, as well as the importance of preserving small towns. It covers rural identity, private and natural land, the communities that formed at rural crossroads, persistence and managing change.
The Museum on Main Street program begins working with host cities and towns, in addition to their surrounding regions, 18-24 months before the launch of their tour.
