BLINN COLLEGE: ‘NO EVIDENCE’ THAT STUDENT HAD GUN ON BRENHAM CAMPUS
Blinn College now says there was no firearm involved in Wednesday morning’s threat on the Brenham Campus that resulted in a brief shelter-in-place order.
A statement received from Blinn Communications Director Richard Bray read, “The Blinn Police Department’s investigation has now concluded and found no evidence that the individual had a firearm or displayed one during the incident in question.”
The statement also said the police department has submitted its findings to the Washington County Attorney. A representative of the county attorney’s office told KWHI this (Friday) morning that it had not yet received the information.
Around 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, the College sent out an alert advising of an “armed subject” and prompting students and staff to shelter in place.
Bray said Blinn police had received a report of a student with a possible weapon on campus. The student left the scene and was later located at Jackson Street Park. The all-clear was given on campus around 11:45 a.m.
Brenham Police Chief Ron Parker told KWHI on Wednesday that the subject, who was only identified as a male, fled from Blinn officers and allegedly dumped a handgun at the park. Parker said the subject was apprehended and a K-9 was called in to search for the weapon.
When asked if the subject was released from custody without any charges being filed, Bray said charges are determined by the local prosecuting authority.
