BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO HOLD HEARING FEB. 1 ON ADOPTION OF IMPACT FEES
The City of Brenham has scheduled a hearing for the public to speak on the potential adoption of impact fees.
The hearing will take place during the Brenham City Council’s meeting on Thursday, February 1st at 1 p.m. at Brenham City Hall and is meant to allow residents to speak on the adoption of impact fees for water, wastewater and roadways.
The fees are imposed on developers to generate revenue or recoup costs of capital improvements or facility expansions associated with new development. They are specifically meant to help fund upgrades to city roads and water/wastewater infrastructure within the city’s extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ).
If approved, the fees would be assessed on all new developments within the city and its ETJ per service unit or platted lot. The city says the benefits of the fees include lessening the impact of costs for new capital improvements on existing rates and taxpayers, as well as helping pay for a percentage of projects directly related to necessary improvements due to growth, thereby offsetting debt or higher rates.
Members of the public are invited to attend the hearing and present evidence either for or against the adoption of impact fees.
Information on prospective growth, land uses, capital improvement plans and maximum assessable impact fees is available for review at Brenham City Hall and at the city’s website, www.cityofbrenham.org.
