GOV. GREG ABBOTT VISITS BRENHAM

Governor Greg Abbott made an appearance in Brenham today (Monday).

Governor Greg Abbott speaks at a candidate
endorsement event for Trey Wharton on Monday at
the Ant Street Inn Ballroom in Brenham.

A packed crowd at the Ant Street Inn Ballroom greeted Abbott as part of a campaign kick-off event for his endorsed Republican candidate in the State House District 12 race, Trey Wharton.

Abbott spoke on many issues facing voters during this election cycle, including the economy, property taxes, education and immigration.

Abbott also discussed his shared values with Wharton and their fight against “woke” culture.

Abbott stated his desire to have Wharton as a representative in Austin, citing Wharton’s support on matters like school choice legislation and stronger border security.

After Abbott’s words, Wharton thanked him for his support and pledged to work closely with him if he is elected.  Wharton is running against Ben Bius and John Harvey Slocum in the March 5th primary.

Prior to Abbott’s speech, he was introduced by Washington County Judge John Durrenberger, who applauded Abbott for “doing the right thing” at the border.

According to State Senator Lois Kolkhorst, who along with Durrenberger was one of several local and area dignitaries in attendance at the event, it has been several years – though still during Abbott’s tenure as governor – since he was last in Brenham.  Abbott has served as governor since 2015.

Though those in attendance were largely in support of Abbott, a group of protestors stood outside, holding signs critical of him.  The event remained peaceful.
