The first day of school will be Wednesday, August 14th. Students will have three days off, September 18-20, for the fair holiday. The first semester will wrap up with early release on December 20th, and class will pick back up on Wednesday, January 8th.
Spring break is scheduled for March 10-14. Graduation day will be Friday, May 23rd, matching Brenham ISD.
In other items, trustees heard an update on the status of the school bond project. The report from DSA Construction Management said Hellas Construction has completed installation of the turf and all the cutouts at the field and track. Much of February was spent grinding the asphalt and trying to smooth out the track. The rubber track material will be sprayed once the track is fully level.
Moeller Electric has installed the conduit for the press box, and Boothe Construction continued their work on storm drainage. Champion Site Prep worked last month on regrading the roads and parking lot to get ready for the gravel sub base.
During the enrollment report provided by now-retiring Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy, she said there are currently 575 students in Burton ISD, including 357 at the elementary school and 218 at the secondary school. She noted that when she arrived at Burton ISD in 2015, the district’s enrollment was 375 students.
