The Faith Mission SMART-CARE Kids Program has announced their Shining Star Award and Mentor of Month Award winners for the month of September.

The Shining Star for Attendance is Ra’Niyah Gilmon from Krause Elementary School, while the Shining Star for Attitude goes to Jada Franklin from Brenham High School, and Shining Star for Action went to Isabella Cervantes from Brenham Junior High School.

Each student receives a certificate, and a gift from the SMART Treasure Box.

One of the mantras for the Faith Mission SMART-CARE Kids program is to be a “positive place in a negative world.” The program uses the Shining Star awards to provide positive reinforcement for Attendance, Attitude, and Action on a weekly and monthly basis.

Each student is also paired with a one-on-one mentor through the B-FAMOUS program with Blinn College.

B-FAMOUS stands for Blinn Football and Athletes Mentoring Others for Ultimate Success.

The September Mentor of the Month is Crystal Jones, who is a Blinn Women’s Basketball Player from Leander.

Jones said that she was part of the program last year and loves to help out the kids and the community.

For being the Mentor of the Month, she will receive a certificate and a cash prize.
