MCCAUL RELEASES A STATEMENT ON HIS AIRPORT DETENTION
U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul, who serves as the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released a statement after being detained by police at a Washington D.C. airport earlier this month.
McCaul said he became disoriented at Dulles International Airport after he took medication and drank alcohol before a scheduled flight back home to Texas.
The medication was an Ambien, which the Congressman explained that he took to help him sleep on the upcoming flight.
McCaul, who was just elected to his 11th term of office, said that law enforcement officers briefly detained him while he waited for a family member to pick him up.
Congressman McCaul, whose district includes Washington County, added that he has nothing but respect and gratitude for the officers, who intercepted him that evening.
He referred to the incident as a mistake, and one that he takes full responsibility.
McCaul also vowed to learn from it, and to “be a better person going forward.”
