GRASS FIRE, GREASE FIRE AMONG FIVE CALLS MONDAY FOR BRENHAM FIRE DEPT.

The Brenham Fire Department responded to five calls on Monday.

Just past 11 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center, 700 Medical Parkway, for a report of a gas leak.  They arrived to find a small gas leak around the meter, and the City of Brenham Gas Department made location to repair the leak.  The fire department cleared the scene.

Around 3:30 p.m., members of the Brenham Fire Department and Salem Volunteer Fire Department were called out to Spring Creek Road and Highway 36 South for a reported structure fire.  A Salem volunteer arrived on location to find a controlled burn, not a structure fire, so units returned to service.

Approaching 4 p.m., Brenham firefighters and the Gay Hill Volunteer Fire Department went out to the 8000 block of Quebe Road for a grass fire.  Upon arrival, they found about half of an acre on fire.  Both departments put out the blaze.  Brenham units cleared the call, while the Gay Hill department stayed on location, putting out hot spots.

Shortly after 6:15 p.m., BFD members received a report of a structure fire at a home in the 1500 block of Woodson Lane.  Nothing was showing from the exterior of the home, but they discovered smoke inside the home caused by a grease fire.  The fire was extinguished, and personnel checked for fire extension but found nothing.  They then used a fan to ventilate the home before returning to the station.

Around 6:30 p.m., firefighters responded to a transportation incident in the 1300 block of South Austin Street.  They made location to find a two-vehicle accident with no injuries and cleaned the roadway of debris before returning to service.
