BRENHAM POLICE UPDATE YELLOW ROSES STORY: INDIVIDUAL NOT CHARGED

The Brenham Police Department provided a late update on Wednesday night regarding the individual handing out yellow roses to women at Wal-Mart.

On Tuesday, Brenham Police were made aware of an individual handing out yellow roses to women at Wal-Mart.  There were reports that some of the recipients were experiencing sudden illnesses shortly after receiving these roses. Out of an overabundance of caution to the public, a notification was sent out to the community to assist in obtaining the individual's name so Officers could speak with him regarding the investigation.

On Wednesday, with the community's assistance, Officers obtained the person of interest’s name.  The individual was located and willingly met with Detective Guerra at the Brenham Police Station, where he was cooperative throughout the investigation.

The investigation revealed that there was no direct threat to the community and that the individual did not commit any type of criminal offense, but was attempting a random act of kindness. All evidence was obtained and provided by the cooperative individual for the investigation.

With the assistance of the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office Hazmat Division, the evidence was tested, and later revealed that there were no foreign substances on any pieces of evidence.

According to Police, anyone that became ill after receiving one of the roses was coincidental with the incident. City of Brenham Communications Manager Melinda Gordon said there was no criminal intent, or intention to harm anyone, and therefore no charges are being brought against him.
