BURTON CITY COUNCIL TO TAKE UP FRIENDS & NEIGHBORS BALLPARK AGREEMENT
The Burton City Council on Tuesday will revisit an agreement with Burton Friends and Neighbors for use of the city ballpark.
The council seeks to establish the license and use agreement to cover liabilities and lay out which parties are responsible in scenarios like crime or damage.
Last month, Mayor Karen Buck said the city had not heard from Friends and Neighbors regarding the agreement for several months. As a result, in order to bring Friends and Neighbors to the table, the council voted to start charging for water used at the ballpark unless the nonprofit has an agreement ready for the city by this meeting on Tuesday.
The Friends and Neighbors organization raises funds for ballpark improvements and scholarships for local students.
In other business, councilmembers will hold a public hearing before voting to establish the city’s 2025-26 general and water/sewer budgets.
Also, the council will vote on a resolution adopting a water conservation plan and review new protocols for water outages and water well failure. The items come after the city’s well outage in early February.
Additionally, the council will:
- Act on an engagement letter submitted by Medack & Oltmann to complete the 2024-25 Fiscal Year audit.
- Consider a contract between the city and Josh Guelker for meter reader services.
- Review the Washington County Appraisal District’s proposed budget for the next fiscal year.
The council will meet Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Burton City Hall.
