MAY SALES TAX REBATES DOWN FOR WASHINGTON CO. & BRENHAM, UP SIGNIFICANTLY FOR BURTON

  

Sales and tax distributions for the month of May were down for Washington County and the City of Brenham, but much larger for the City of Burton.

Washington County’s May rebate came out to $446,944, down 5.85 percent from the $474,751 received in May of last year.  So far in 2025, the county has collected $2,033,838, up 3.56 percent from the $1,963,864 received through this time a year ago.

The City of Brenham reported a May rebate of $894,906, a reduction of 7.37 percent from last May, when it brought in $966,108.  The city’s receipts to date are up 3.91 percent from where they were last year, at $4,430,471 compared to $4,263,413.

The City of Burton’s rebate this month was $41,841, an increase of 164.05 percent from May 2024’s rebate of $15,846.  So far this year, the city has received $85,358, up 3.01 percent from the $82,856 taken in through May of last year.

Comptroller Glenn Hegar reported local sales tax payouts of $1.3 billion for May, 4.5 percent up from last May and up 4.4 percent for the year to date.

May’s allocations are based on sales made in March by businesses that report tax monthly and sales made in January, February and March by quarterly filers.
