Lee County Sheriff Garrett Durrenberger was behind bars Sunday morning on a charge of Driving While Intoxicated.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office confirms that Sheriff Durrenberger was arrested after a traffic stop by a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Trooper. After being arrested around 2:15 a.m. Sunday, he was booked into the Lee County Jail around 6:45 a.m. and released just after 8:15 a.m.
The sheriff’s office says investigation is being handled by DPS and that it cannot release details on another agency’s investigation. It adds that the office “remains fully operational and will continue to provide professional law enforcement protection and services to our citizens and guests.”
Sheriff Garrett Durrenberger is the grandson of Washington County Judge John Durrenberger and the son of Bank of Brenham President Gary Durrenberger. The Office of the Washington County Judge and Commissioners Court issued a statement on Sunday clarifying that Judge John Durrenberger “was not involved in this incident in any way”, and that Gary Durrenberger “was also not involved.”
