PANTHER FOOTBALL STAYS UNBEATEN WITH WIN OVER SOMERVILLE
The Burton Panther Football Team spoiled Homecoming Night for the Somerville Yeguas with a 42-23 victory on Friday night.
Burton took to the air for their first score as Kayden Patterson threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Eli Simank. Rueben Rodriguez added the extra point make it 7-0, Panthers
Somerville tied it on a 64-yard touchdown run by Ja'Keith Daniels to tie it at 7-7.
Patterson put Burton back in front with a 20-yard touchdown run to give the Panthers a 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Patterson scored on a pair of touchdown runs, one from eight yards out, and the other from just one yard out. That gave Burton a 28-7 lead.
The Yeguas kicked a 33-yard field goal just before the half to cut the Panther lead to 28-10.
Somerville opened the second half with a touchdown, which narrowed the Burton advantage to 28-17.
Patterson would find Symank on a 38-yard touchdown pass to extend the Panther lead to 35-17 at the end of the third quarter.
The Yeguas scored on another touchdown run, but did not get the two-point conversion, which made it 35-23 Burton.
Patterson wrapped up the scoring with his fourth rushing touchdown of the night, this time from 40-yards out. That made it 42-23 Burton, which ended up being the final.
The Burton defense came up with four big turnovers in the game. Houston Hodde had both an interception and a fumble recovery, Maleek Bibby had an interception as well, and Rueben Rodriguez recovered a fumble too.
Next up, the Panthers (7-0, 3-0) will host the Milano Eagles in their annual Homecoming Game on Friday night at 7pm at Panther Stadium.
