BLINN WOMEN’S BASKETBALL GET A WIN OVER WESTERN TEXAS
Story by Joe Alberico, Blinn College Sports Information
The Blinn College women’s basketball team got back into the win column in a big way Friday.
The Buccaneers erupted for 29 points in the first quarter and complimented a strong offensive performance with sturdy defense en route to an 88-42 victory over Western Texas College at the Western Texas College Classic in Snyder, Texas.
Blinn improved to 3-3 overall.
“It was a very good defensive performance for us tonight, and all 13 of our players played extremely hard and were locked in,” Bucs head coach Jeff Jenkins said. “A three-day tournament is really hard on the body, so it was good that we got to play everyone, and that nobody played more than 20 minutes.”
Blinn limited the Westerners to just five points in the first period and went into halftime leading 47-24. The Bucs locked down Western Texas again in the third period as the hosts managed just two points.
Four players scored in double figures for Blinn.
Freshman guard Mia Colston tallied a game-high 14 points, sophomore guards Jaya Gradney and Jasey Campbell followed with 13 apiece, and freshman guard Chloe Williams chipped in 12. Eleven players scored for the Bucs.
Blinn held Western Texas without a double-digit scorer.
The Bucs finish play at the Classic with a tilt against Howard College at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
