VFW 5254 ANNOUNCES THE RT-C WINNERS OF THE ANNUAL ESSAY CONTEST

Round Top-Carmine ISD students were recognized by VFW Post 5254 for the being the top finishers in a pair of national essay contests.

Students in the 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade took part in the Patriot’s Pen Contest. Patriot’s Pen gives students a chance to write an essay expressing their views on an annual patriotic themes.

Meanwhile, the Voice of Democracy is an audio essay contest that is open to high school students that also allows them to express their views on annual patriotic themes. They also compete for over $2 million in scholarships.

This year’s theme, which was chosen by the VFW Commander-in-Chief is “How Are You Showing Patriotism and Support for Our Country?”

In Round Top, the top three finishers for the Patriot’s Pen contest were:

1st Place – Lylah Robertson

2nd Place – Teague Weinart

Teach of the Year: Brandi Venghaus
(RTC ISD)

3rd Place – Angela Soto.

The top three finishers for the Voice of Democracy contest were:

1st Place – Brooke McCoy

2nd Place – Avery Lamson

3rd Place – Lawrence Castillo.

The VFW also selected Brandi Venghaus as the Post’s Teacher of the Year.

The essay contest continues to the regional level, followed by state, and then nationals.
